EMPIRE TAKE THIRD STRAIGHT: BY THE NUMBERS
The Albany Empire (3-0) defeated the Philadelphia Soul (2-1) on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center by a score of 57-48 in front of a crowd of 9,843to claim sole possession of first place early in 2019. The game was a back and forth shootout all night, but the Empire pulled ahead late thanks to a touchdown on special teams and a clutch game-clinching interception.

Empire quarterback, Tommy Grady, won game MVP honors for the third consecutive game, tallying 14 completions on 17 attempts for 256 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Continuing to spread the ball around to all of his weapons, Grady found 4 different receivers on the night. Leading the way for the Empire receiving unit was Malachi Jones with 6 catches for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns. Receiver, DJ Stephens, was efficient with 2 catches for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns. Stephens was also big on special teams, returning 5 kicks for 63 yards. Quentin Sims caught another 2 touchdowns to go with his 3 receptions for 25 yards. Collin Taylor added 3 receptions for 24 yards and 1 touchdown in the victory.
Taking home Defensive Player of the Game honors, defensive back Arkeith Brown came up clutch at the end of the game. Brown recovered an onside kick attempt and ran it in for a touchdown and added 1 interception on defense which sealed the victory for Albany. Leading the way in tackles was rookie defensive back, Juwan Offray, with 7 total on the night. Rookies Tevin Homer and Harold Brantley III stepped up in the team’s first road game. Homer added 5.5 total tackles, leading the team with 20 on the season. Brantley III had 4.5 total tackles in his debut game, including 1 tackle for loss. Defensive back, Terrance Smith, also added 1 tackle for loss.
The next game for the Empire is another road matchup against the Columbus Destroyers on Saturday, May 18 at 7:00 pm in the Nationwide Arena.
